5 Summer Care Tips for Your NBR™ Hair Extensions
Summer comes with spending more time out in the sun, which means your hair extensions will require a bit more TLC to increase their longevity. Follow these care tips to keep your hair happy and healthy during the warmer months.
1. Avoid Getting Sunscreen in Your Hair
This is a big one when it comes to hair extensions. We have mentioned this tip time and time again on our blog because of how crucial it is avoid when it comes to extending the longevity of your extensions.
Most sunscreens contain the ingredients Avobenzone (Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane) and Octocrylene, which are the culprit of turning your hair brassy or orange when it comes to brunettes and dark haired gals. Blondes are more prone to discoloration when their extensions come into contact with sunscreen chemicals, leading to peachy colored hair.
If you accidentally get sunscreen in your hair, be sure to rinse it out as quickly as possible.
2. Rinse Before Going into the Water
If you’re a beach babe or like to go for a swim in the pool during the summer, it is extremely important that you rinse your hair before getting into the water.
The salinity in the ocean water and the chlorine in your pool can also lead to dryness, damage, and may also cause discoloration in your hair extensions when you expose dry hair to these types of water.
Wetting and rinsing your hair before you go for a swim will prevent your locks from absorbing too much salt or chlorine and preventing excessive damage.
3. Suns Out. Braids+Buns Out.
Braiding your hair or putting it up in a bun before getting it wet will be a lifesaver for you and your hair this summer.
Braids and buns will save you a lot of time and frustration by preventing knots and tangles, while also keeping your hair out of the way while you swim or lay out in the sun. The last thing you want to do is tug on your extensions while attempting to detangle it, as this may cause unwanted damage.
You can opt for a ballerina or low bun, a timeless French braid style, a side braid, or any braided style of your choice. If you want to have a bit more fun, you can try combining the two and sporting some braided space buns, which not only look super cute, but will also keep your hair secure the entire time!
4. Dry Shampoo is Your Best Friend
Dry shampoo is a no brainer when you’re running late and don’t have enough time to wash your hair. It freshens up your look when you want to spend an extra day or two in between washes and prevents you from stripping your hair of its natural oils.
With temperatures rising during the summer months, your scalp may produce more oil. Be sure to keep dry shampoo on hand and in your gym or beach bag to freshen up your locks in-between activities and avoid drying out your extension hair from washing it too often.
5. Avoid Heat. Use Texturing Spray Instead.
Avoiding heat and styling tools is one of the best ways to prevent damage to our hair, especially during the warmer months when we spend most of our time outside exposed to natural damage from the sun and the wind.
However, this doesn’t mean that you have to skip out on changing up your hairstyle this summer on the days that you don’t use your straightener or curling iron. Texturizing sprays can give you effortless beachy waves, add body, volume, and definition to your hair without the heat damage.
